Treasure in our trash
With eye catching advertisements across media and billboards, a new Firstgas biogas campaign highlights hidden treasure.
In addition to the company’s Reporoa investment with Ecogas, transforming kerbside food waste into biomethane*, Firstgas is also focused on communicating the potential of biogas to savvy Kiwis, who want to use gas and bring down emissions.
Firstgas Group Marketing and Communications Manager, Richelle Ashman says the campaign is designed to put ordinary and unexpected items (like a pile of food waste) on a pedestal – changing perceptions around what the future of gas really looks like.
“When it comes to decarbonising Aotearoa, Kiwis want to see what progress looks like, and our intention is to surprise them with the results.”
Firstgas estimates New Zealand can produce enough low carbon gas domestically to supply all residential users and three quarters of commercial gas users; the equivalent of taking 415,000 petrol cars off the road.
“It’s wonderful that the Treasure campaign launch aligns with the timing of the Auckland Council’s kerbside waste collection campaign roll-out. It gives us a great opportunity to support the message around the overall benefits in kerbside food scraps collections.
“This is a very positive story for the future of energy in New Zealand and that is why this campaign is important - to make sure Kiwis know more about the treasure in our trash and how we can use it to energise our homes,” she said.
* In April this year, Firstgas Group company, First Renewables Limited, and Ecogas announced the next phase of their partnership that will realise a large-scale renewable gas to pipeline project in Aotearoa.
