A new kinda gas. Kinder to the planet.

The Future of Gas in New Zealand

Why are we still using gas in New Zealand?

As an energy for homes and businesses, gas has many uses. From cooking, to keeping us warm and heating our water. It’s also used to produce electricity when there is not enough renewable electricity to meet demand, and by large industrial and commercial gas customers countrywide.

Today natural gas and LPG are used by around 600,000 homes and businesses in New Zealand.

What is the future for gas?

If you like today’s gas, you’ll love tomorrow’s. In the transition away from gases produced from fossil sources, countries around the world are either using or investigating renewable gases - gases that are either net zero or have low carbon emissions. Renewable biogas and hydrogen are already being developed and trialed here in New Zealand.

The future looks bright with renewable gases.

There are numerous renewable gas options on the horizon. Everything from renewable biogas and hydrogen, to renewable natural gas, renewable LPG, and renewable DME.
